Where to Stay on Fulidhoo

Family guesthouse, small hotel, a quieter neighbour or a private resort island: how to choose, what it costs and when to book.

Fulidhoo has no resort. You stay in one of a few dozen guesthouses and small hotels — most with a handful of rooms, many run by local families — in the village a few minutes’ walk from the harbour and the beach. That is the point of coming: you live on a real Maldivian island and spend your money with the people who live there.

Because the island is so small, where on Fulidhoo matters far less than what kind of place you want: a simple room with breakfast, a small hotel with more polish, or a beachfront guesthouse. If you would rather have alcohol, a spa and an island to yourself, Vaavu also has a couple of private resort islands.

Every property below is a real, bookable listing; links go to Booking.com, where you can see photos, reviews and rates for your dates. We do not print nightly prices, which change with the season.

Where to stay

Where to base yourself

Fulidhoo village

Best for most visitors: the harbour sharks, the bikini beach, cafés and every excursion operator are within a few minutes’ walk. Expect simple, clean rooms, usually with air-conditioning and breakfast, and owners who arrange your boat and trips. Suits couples, solo travellers, snorkellers and divers on a budget.

Keyodhoo, Felidhoo & Thinadhoo

Vaavu’s other local islands are even quieter, with a few guesthouses each and the same reefs. Best for repeat visitors and anyone who finds Fulidhoo too busy when the day-trip boats arrive. Connections are fewer, so plan transfers carefully.

Resort islands in Vaavu

Private islands with beach and overwater villas, a house reef, a spa and alcohol. Best for honeymooners and anyone who wants the classic resort experience close to the same dive sites — at resort prices. Transfers are arranged by the resort.

Malé or Hulhumalé (one night)

Not a base, but useful when your flight lands after the last speedboat, or before an early public ferry. Hulhumalé, next to the airport, is the more relaxed choice.

When to book

  • December to April (the drier northeast monsoon) is the main season, and Christmas, New Year and Easter fill first. Book a couple of months ahead for those dates, earlier for the best-reviewed places.
  • May to November is quieter and often cheaper, with more rain and wind but plenty of good days. A few weeks ahead is usually enough.
  • Book your transfer at the same time. Ask the guesthouse which speedboat it uses and whether it can book you a seat, especially if you land in the afternoon.

Practical notes

  • Green tax: the Maldives charges a green tax per person per night; for guesthouses of up to 50 rooms on inhabited islands it was raised to US$6 in January 2025. It is usually paid at the property — check whether your rate includes it.
  • Payment: many guesthouses prefer US dollars cash for extras and excursions; ask whether cards are accepted and whether a surcharge applies.
  • Meals: breakfast is usually included; half or full board is often available and practical on an island with few restaurants.
  • No alcohol is allowed on Fulidhoo, and you may not bring it into the Maldives. Resort islands are the exception.
  • Wi-Fi and phone signal are generally available, but speeds vary. A local SIM from the airport is a useful backup.
  • Read recent reviews for noise (mosque, generator, construction) and for how well the owner organises trips.

Once your room is booked, read getting to Fulidhoo and plan your days with our itineraries and tours.

Where to stay on Fulidhoo: FAQs

Frequently asked questions

Are there resorts on Fulidhoo?

No. Fulidhoo is an inhabited local island with guesthouses and small hotels. The nearest resorts are on private islands elsewhere in Vaavu Atoll, such as Alimatha and Dhiggiri.

Which part of Fulidhoo is best to stay in?

It hardly matters — the island is so small that everything is within a few minutes’ walk. Choose by the type of property and reviews; pick a beachfront guesthouse if a sea view matters to you.

Is there a green tax for guesthouses?

Yes. Guests pay a per-person, per-night green tax; for guesthouses of up to 50 rooms on inhabited islands it has been US$6 since January 2025. Check with your property whether it is included in your rate.

Can I drink alcohol at my guesthouse?

No. Inhabited islands in the Maldives are dry and importing alcohol is not allowed. For a drink, take a resort day trip or stay at a resort island.

How far ahead should I book?

For December to April and holiday periods, a couple of months ahead; at other times a few weeks is normally enough. The island has a limited number of rooms.

Does my guesthouse arrange the speedboat?

Usually, yes — most guesthouses book shared speedboat seats for guests and meet you at the harbour. Ask when you book, and give them your flight times.
